Unit Description
1 day unit on The Cat in the Hat, celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday

Lesson Description for Day
I will read aloud the book. As we are reading as a class, we will discuss the rhyming of words and talk about the story sequence of first, second, then, last. we will do a writing activity that involves drawing as well. there will be 4 boxes with first, next, then, and last. they will draw a sequence of events from the story. after that, students will do a hat coloring activity using their own creativity and imagination. we will go to class carpet at the end and the students will share all their activity work.

Goals
Unit Goals:
The student will learn how to read some of the first grade words before then head to first grade. The student will listen to myself read the book. The student will explore the components of first level reading and words. The students will also write some of the words
Lesson Goals:
The student will understand the context of the cat in the hat. The students will learn how to follow directions. The students will get creative.
Methods
Introduce and Model New Knowledge:
* Read aloud The Cat in the Hat to the students
*Discuss what words they heard in the book
*First, next, then, last writing activity
*Hand out a beginning coloring activity over the book
Provide Guided Practice:
provide the resources for the students and guide the discussions over the materials
Provide Independent Practice:
Wrap-Up
When students are finished with their writing and hats they will sit on the carpet. This is my favorite part of my lessons. Students will go up to the front of the class for their oral presentation of their writing and hat work. Each student has the opportunity to rad their sentences. We applaud and cheer after each reading.
